Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Texans, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
Sawyer has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
The Jacobs pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
JC Latham at No. 26 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ja'Tavion Sanders in the 33rd overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
T'Vondre Sweat in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A wild overpay on Jack Sawyer in Round 2, Pick 25, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Zak Zinter at slot 89, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
MarShawn Lloyd in No. 95 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Junior Colson at slot 103 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had cheaper options than James Williams at pick No. 121, and it noticed. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
By-the-book stuff, Khyree Jackson at the 124th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Steal is underselling it; Theo Wease at the 158th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Steve Linton at Round 7, Pick 20 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Curtis Jacobs in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
