The Eagles spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jihaad Campbell, the No. 40 name on the board, in the 96th pick.
They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.
Their trades came out a wash either way.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptive interior force at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Malaki Starks in pick 64, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jihaad Campbell in No. 96 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Emery Jones Jr.. It fills a real need, too.
Jake Majors in the 162nd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let a specialist like Ryan Fitzgerald reach Round 5, Pick 27 and blink. They did not. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
