The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Bryce Foster, the No. 187 name on the board, sitting there at the 217th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Chop Robinson at the 21st overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They let Taliese Fuaga come to them and pounced at the 34th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
You do not let a linebacker like Edgerrin Cooper reach pick No. 51 and blink. They did not. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They robbed the room for Quinn Ewers here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ja'Lynn Polk at slot 73 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 18, with Jack Sawyer worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kiran Amegadjie in pick 109 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Matt Goncalves in the Round 4 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
De'Corian Clark slid further than he should have, and No. 187 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Bryce Foster at the Round 6 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board fumbled Nelson Ceaser all the way to slot 219, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jordan Whittington in pick 230 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
