Call it larceny. Quinshon Judkins sat on the board until pick 186, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
Williams has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Aireontae Ersery this early at No. 46. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 54 is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached into another round for Mykel Williams, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A wild overpay on Deone Walker in pick 85, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Malaki Starks here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A big swing on DeMonte Capehart at pick No. 108, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value said wait; Donovan Jackson in the Round 4 slot says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Emery Jones Jr. in No. 121 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Colston Loveland in slot 144 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
A real head-scratcher, Davison Igbinosun in the 149th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They talked themselves into Jared Wilson at pick No. 152, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Steal is underselling it; Quinshon Judkins at the 186th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Harold Perkins Jr. at pick 218 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Rod Moore slid further than he should have, and the Round 7 slot is lovely value for the safety. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jason Henderson. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Jonah Monheim in No. 239 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
