The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Miller Moss, the No. 112 name on the board, in the Round 7 slot.
The cost of the Oliver reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.18
· Pick 18
· Will Johnson
· CB
· rank 25
In No. 18 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value.
R1.26
· Pick 26
· Deone Walker
· DT
· rank 29
In pick 26 they get an anchor for the defensive front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.1
· Pick 33
· Isaiah Bond
· WR
· rank 30
A clean, defensible pick in the 33rd pick with a little surplus value in Isaiah Bond. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.9
· Pick 41
· Harold Perkins Jr.
· LB
· rank 19
Somehow Harold Perkins Jr. was still sitting there in the 41st overall pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R2.17
· Pick 49
· Aireontae Ersery
· OT
· rank 55
Aireontae Ersery at slot 49 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.28
· Pick 60
· Tyler Warren
· TE
· rank 56
A tidy little value on Tyler Warren in Round 2, Pick 28, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.8
· Pick 72
· Emery Jones Jr.
· OT
· rank 68
Emery Jones Jr. in the Round 3 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.7
· Pick 108
· Rod Moore
· S
· rank 93
Rod Moore slipping to pick No. 108 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.6
· Pick 144
· Tacario Davis
· CB
· rank 95
Circle this one: Tacario Davis at slot 144 is a fall that decides a draft. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R7.4
· Pick 218
· Miller Moss
· QB
· rank 112
Miller Moss at pick 218 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.6
· Pick 220
· Collin Oliver
· LB-EDGE
· rank 261
Value said wait; Collin Oliver in pick No. 220 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.22
· Pick 236
· Bryson Nesbit
· TE
· rank 207
The board fumbled Bryson Nesbit all the way to the 236th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.42
· Pick 256
· Kyren Lacy
· WR
· rank 223
They robbed the room for Kyren Lacy here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
