The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
Every board in the league had Stover lower, and that gap is the story. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Tyler Guyton in Round 2, Pick 9 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Ja'Lynn Polk at No. 67 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Cade Stover at pick No. 103 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dominick Puni. A need, and now a little less of one.
Khyree Jackson in the Round 5 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A wild overpay on Zion Tupuola-Fetui in slot 181, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They went early on Jawhar Jordan in the 224th pick, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
