It is the swing that defines the weekend: Xavier Thomas in Round 6, Pick 9, a good 94 spots before the room expected him. No fireworks, but a solid B.
However the rest shakes out, Davis at that price is a win they earned. Spending an early pick on linebacker with interior defensive lineman, offensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 22 they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They robbed the room for Tyler Nubin here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
They took Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at par in the 54th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A want over a need in Round 3, Pick 34: Payton Wilson adds a linebacker while interior defensive lineman, offensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board fumbled Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint all the way to pick No. 170, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Renardo Green in slot 171 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A real head-scratcher, Xavier Thomas in the 184th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Isaiah Davis in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
