The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Commanders watched Smael Mondon Jr. slide 68 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The Batty reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd pick they get a long-term starter on the line, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, Deone Walker went about where he belonged in the 63rd overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Maxwell Hairston at par in Round 3, Pick 25, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A running back of that caliber at the Round 3 slot is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Steal is underselling it; Andrew Mukuba at No. 126 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Mason Taylor in slot 128 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They went early on Jaeden Roberts in pick No. 146, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They barely believed it either: Smael Mondon Jr. still on the board at pick 166. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Seth McLaughlin in pick No. 203 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A wild overpay on Tyler Batty in pick 236, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Deion Burks in slot 247 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
