The move everyone will second-guess came early. The 49ers reached some 25 spots for Dani Dennis-Sutton, and value like that does not grow back. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Dani Dennis-Sutton in pick 58, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
A conviction pick on J.C. Davis at slot 127 that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They liked CJ Daniels enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 4 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A clean, defensible pick in the 138th pick with a little surplus value in Eli Raridon. It fills a real need, too.
Dametrious Crownover in pick No. 139 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
