The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Kenyon Sadiq slide 206 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get an every-down engine for the run game, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick No. 21 they get a premier pass rusher at a price that makes it sweeter.
They barely believed it either: Jermod McCoy still on the board at slot 76. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at the 92nd pick is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Spencer Fano in Round 4, Pick 12 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Somehow Sonny Styles was still sitting there in No. 152, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steal is underselling it; Akheem Mesidor at pick 177 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Ted Hurst in the Round 5 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Michael Taaffe in slot 218 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor itch, scratched.
The board fumbled Kenyon Sadiq all the way to the 224th overall pick, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
