The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Isaiah Davis, the No. 155 name on the board, in slot 232.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
JC Latham in pick 24 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A slide stopped in No. 56, with Cooper Beebe worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in slot 95 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They read the board right and Will Shipley was the payoff at pick No. 119. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board fumbled James Williams all the way to the 173rd overall pick, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steal is underselling it; Chau Smith-Wade at the 174th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They will replay Anthony Gould at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Isaiah Davis still on the board at Round 7, Pick 12. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They robbed the room for Dwight McGlothern here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Trente Jones at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
