When a board-topper like Marlin Klein slides to the 223rd pick, you do not overthink it, and the Commanders did not. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Every board in the league had Prysock lower, and that gap is the story. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a three-down runner, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Romello Height at No. 71 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
Keylan Rutledge slid further than he should have, and pick No. 126 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, DeMonte Capehart at the 147th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ephesians Prysock at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
VJ Payne in slot 187 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Circle this one: Jeff Caldwell at Round 6, Pick 28 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board fumbled Marlin Klein all the way to pick 223, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
