The Commanders torched the value chart for Tristan Leigh, taking him 46 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Hurst at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 28th overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 38 with a little surplus value in Dillon Thieneman. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Connor Lew at slot 71 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Circle this one: Davison Igbinosun at the 147th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Zxavian Harris at the Round 6 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ted Hurst in pick 198 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They talked themselves into Tristan Leigh at Round 7, Pick 7, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
