The Commanders did not so much draft Bryce Lance as overpay for him, 35 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 13 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Bryce Lance. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid up for Connor Lew at slot 75 when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
You do not let a cornerback like Jalon Kilgore reach Round 4, Pick 30 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Harold Perkins Jr. at pick 147 is the proof. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Ephesians Prysock in the 187th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had Jeff Caldwell higher than pick No. 209, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They jumped the gun on Noah Whittington, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
