It is the swing that defines the weekend: Tristan Leigh in pick 223, a good 44 spots before the room expected him.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Masses.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get an every-down engine for the run game at fair value.
Bryce Lance at pick 71 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They read the board right and Hezekiah Masses was the payoff at the 147th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
VJ Payne at the 187th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jadon Canady at slot 209 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tristan Leigh at No. 223 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
