The Commanders clearly saw something nobody else did in Fernando Carmona, taking him 56 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Call it a C and check back in two years.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The Miller value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get juice off the edge at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 7, with Christen Miller worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
By-the-book stuff, Connor Lew at pick No. 84 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Malik Muhammad at No. 99 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Malik Benson at the 130th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They read the board right and Harold Perkins Jr. was the payoff at the 147th overall pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No edge and no loss on Ephesians Prysock in Round 6, Pick 6; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They jumped the gun on Noah Whittington, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached a country mile for Fernando Carmona at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
