The Commanders treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending No. 223 on Tristan Leigh a full 43 spots early.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. The Singleton value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th overall pick they get the heartbeat of the defense. More want than need.
Logan Jones in pick 92 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tacario Davis at Round 4, Pick 12 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy bit of business in the 119th pick, where Nicholas Singleton graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Malik Benson at slot 147 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, VJ Payne at No. 187 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
No drama and no debate, Toriano Pride Jr. went about where he belonged in the 209th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
