Call it larceny. Anthony Hill Jr. sat on the board until the 71st pick, and the Commanders did not need to be asked twice.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Every board in the league had Whittington lower, and that gap is the story. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th pick they get a disruptor off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
Taking Anthony Hill Jr. in No. 71 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Nothing to complain about; Malik Benson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Domani Jackson at pick No. 187 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach on Noah Whittington in pick 209; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kaden Wetjen in slot 223 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
