There is reaching, and then there is Tristan Leigh at slot 223. The Commanders jumped the board by 44 and dared it to prove them wrong. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Masses pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an every-down engine for the run game. A real need, handled.
They went early on Connor Lew in the 71st overall pick, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Hezekiah Masses at pick 147 is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jeff Caldwell in pick No. 187 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No drama and no debate, Jadon Canady went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 28. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A big swing on Tristan Leigh at slot 223, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
