The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Jeff Caldwell, pick 218, roughly 25 picks past where he belonged.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. The cost of the Whittington reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
Sonny Styles is a better player than slot 27 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor itch, scratched.
A reach on Romello Height in the 58th pick; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
Fair-plus on Keionte Scott, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid sticker price for Trey Zuhn III in the 127th overall pick, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Malik Benson at Round 5, Pick 7, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Ephesians Prysock at pick No. 187 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Taking Jeff Caldwell in pick 218 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Noah Whittington at the Round 7 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
