The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Commanders watched Keionte Scott slide 25 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Reaching for Whittington left real value on the table behind him. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
Caleb Downs at pick No. 7 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A minor itch, scratched.
Keionte Scott at pick 86 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
De'Zhaun Stribling in slot 123 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Beau Stephens at No. 147 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A conviction pick on Jadon Canady at the 198th overall pick that the board grades a round light. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They liked Noah Whittington enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 6, Pick 28. The roster fit checks out.
Jeff Caldwell at the 212th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Fair-plus on Keyshaun Elliott, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
