The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named tight end, a need the Commanders walked right past.
They are betting Jones proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
A clean, defensible pick in pick 7 with a little surplus value in Jeremiyah Love. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A real head-scratcher, Logan Jones in pick No. 71 is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They did well to land Malik Benson in Round 5, Pick 7, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took VJ Payne at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They liked Thaddeus Dixon enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 209. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Zavion Thomas in No. 223 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
