Somebody in the Round 6 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Jeff Caldwell, the No. 189 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a two-high chess piece. Need was not the driver here.
Keionte Scott slid further than he should have, and pick 71 is lovely value for the cornerback. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
DeMonte Capehart is a better player than pick No. 147 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ephesians Prysock in Round 6, Pick 6 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jeff Caldwell in the 209th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Noah Whittington at the 223rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
