You can draft well and still miss the point. The Commanders did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to tight end, which was the need that mattered most. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Downs value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Claiborne has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the back end at a price that makes it sweeter.
Anthony Hill Jr. at pick 43 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Connor Lew. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Hezekiah Masses at pick No. 147 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Malik Benson at the Round 5 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid a round early for Demond Claiborne in No. 154, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
Zxavian Harris in the 162nd pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Ephesians Prysock at Round 6, Pick 6 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
