You build a draft on nights like this. Domani Jackson had no business being available in pick No. 227, and the Commanders did the only sane thing and turned in the card. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The cost of the Heidenreich reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 11 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A slide stopped in slot 43, with Dillon Thieneman worth more than the price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Bryce Lance in the Round 3 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Parker Brailsford at the 147th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid up for Demond Claiborne at pick No. 151 when waiting would have done the job. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Cyrus Allen at the 187th overall pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jadon Canady a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Eli Heidenreich in No. 223, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: Domani Jackson at Round 7, Pick 11 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
