The 49ers spent real capital to be 31 picks early on Keyron Crawford, and the board is going to hold them to it. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Muhammad. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th overall pick they get a blindside protector, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Keyron Crawford in the Round 2 slot, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
Malik Muhammad at pick No. 127 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jack Endries slid further than he should have, and pick 133 is lovely value for the tight end. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 138 with a little surplus value in Parker Brailsford. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy little value on Kaleb Proctor in Round 4, Pick 39, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
