New England Patriots

The Patriots lost the trade table, and the C tells the story.

Future A+

The Nick Nash selection is the head-turner. The Patriots reached 110 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. A mixed bag that lands at C.

Skattebo falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.2 · Pick 34 · Josh Conerly Jr. · OT · rank 45
They paid up for Josh Conerly Jr. at pick No. 34 when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Tyler Booker · OG · rank 37
No drama and no debate, Tyler Booker went about where he belonged in No. 39. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.1 · Pick 65 · Tyler Warren · TE · rank 44
A tight end of that caliber at the Round 3 slot is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Donovan Ezeiruaku · DE-EDGE · rank 76
Donovan Ezeiruaku at the 70th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.8 · Pick 72 · Trey Amos · CB · rank 57
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Trey Amos at pick 72. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.16 · Pick 80 · Tez Johnson · WR · rank 96
Tez Johnson in the 80th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.5 · Pick 106 · Carson Schwesinger · LB · rank 132
Carson Schwesinger at the 106th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R5.3 · Pick 141 · Nick Nash · QB · rank 251
They reached into another round for Nick Nash, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
R7.7 · Pick 221 · Seth McLaughlin · C · rank 210
A quiet steal in pick 221: Seth McLaughlin for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.9 · Pick 223 · Cam Skattebo · RB · rank 184
The board fumbled Cam Skattebo all the way to pick No. 223, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.21 · Pick 235 · Cody Lindenberg · LB · rank 218
A tidy bit of business in slot 235, where Cody Lindenberg graded well above the range. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
