It is the swing that defines the weekend: Sam Hartman in the 219th overall pick, a good 34 spots before the room expected him.

Bertrand falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 30
No drama and no debate, Jackson Powers-Johnson went about where he belonged in the 25th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
R2.19 · Pick 51 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 48
A tidy little value on Edgerrin Cooper in pick 51, a step better than break-even. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 62
A straight-up fair deal on Jaden Hicks at No. 58, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Max Melton · CB · rank 67
Value with a capital V on Max Melton in pick No. 84, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 121
They reached into another round for Brenden Rice, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Mekhi Wingo · DT · rank 101
Mekhi Wingo in the 91st pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 141
Christian Jones in No. 126 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Isaiah Davis · RB · rank 155
Isaiah Davis at slot 169 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.37 · Pick 212 · Eric Watts · DL-EDGE · rank 239
Eric Watts in pick No. 212 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 253
Sam Hartman at Round 6, Pick 44 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · JD Bertrand · LB · rank 223
Circle this one: JD Bertrand at the 245th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Deantre Prince · CB · rank 257
They paid sticker price for Deantre Prince in the Round 7 slot, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
