The Jordan Travis selection is the head-turner. The Patriots reached 30 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Patrick Paul in Round 2, Pick 18 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
Xavier Worthy at No. 53 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid a round early for Ben Sinnott in slot 123, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value said wait; Jordan Travis in the Round 4 slot says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kitan Oladapo. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A conviction pick on Elijah Jones at the 180th overall pick that the board grades a round light. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tahj Washington. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good price on Frank Gore Jr. in slot 231, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
