The Frank Crum selection is the head-turner. The Packers reached 37 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The Sundell steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get an island corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Braden Fiske. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jaylen Wright at pick No. 58 is a conviction pick that outran the value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jaden Hicks at Round 3, Pick 25 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Gabriel Murphy in the 98th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Zak Zinter at No. 99 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
No drama and no debate, Spencer Rattler went about where he belonged in pick No. 119. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on James Williams at the 126th pick, value and slot in agreement. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Mason McCormick at pick 154. It fills a real need, too.
Khristian Boyd in No. 169 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jaylan Ford in slot 202 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Jordan Magee at the 217th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Trevin Wallace at the Round 6 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Joshua Cephus at Round 7, Pick 25 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jalen Sundell slid further than he should have, and pick 255 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. The roster fit checks out.
They paid a round early for Trey Taylor in slot 256, more than the board wanted. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A big swing on Frank Crum at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
