The Commanders looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Cade Stover at pick No. 104 regardless, 32 picks early. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Egbuka pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Troy Fautanu at Round 2, Pick 4 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Emeka Egbuka slid further than he should have, and No. 37 is lovely value for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No drama and no debate, Sedrick Van Pran went about where he belonged in pick 68. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Adisa Isaac at the 100th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Cade Stover at pick No. 104 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Payton Wilson at slot 141 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Tyler Batty at pick 182 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
