Washington Commanders

Quarterback settled, Williams in the fold, and a B- for the Commanders.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

Lee has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

However the rest shakes out, Tampa at that price is a win they earned.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Caleb Williams · QB · rank 2
In pick 2 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 28
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tyler Guyton at the 36th pick is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 39
They took Darius Robinson at par in pick No. 40, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 51
Quietly one of the better values of the day, T.J. Tampa at slot 67. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Cade Stover · TE · rank 74
A tidy little value on Cade Stover in the Round 3 slot, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 96
Brenden Rice in No. 100 lands just on the right side of the ledger. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 135
Fair-plus on Roger Rosengarten, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.16 · Pick 152 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 145
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tommy Eichenberg in Round 5, Pick 16. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R7.2 · Pick 222 · Matthew Jones · OG · rank 271
Matthew Jones at the 222nd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Matt Lee · C · rank 275
Matt Lee at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.33 · Pick 253 · KT Leveston · OT · rank 242
KT Leveston at slot 253 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
