Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Jared Wiley at the 223rd pick is 67 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

The whole projection now runs through Caleb Williams; hit there and everything else looks smarter. That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Caleb Williams · QB · rank 2
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 33
Graham Barton at slot 36 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 61
They reached into another round for Edgerrin Cooper, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Ja'Lynn Polk · WR · rank 56
Ja'Lynn Polk slipping to the 67th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Max Melton · CB · rank 113
Max Melton at No. 100 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Mohamed Kamara · DL-EDGE · rank 125
They left a pile of value on the table to take Mohamed Kamara this early at pick 102. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 148
No drama and no debate, Cole Bishop went about where he belonged in No. 141. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Jawhar Jordan · RB · rank 202
A real head-scratcher, Jawhar Jordan in Round 6, Pick 6 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Jared Wiley · TE · rank 290
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jared Wiley in the 223rd pick, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
