Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Trey Moore at the 130th pick is 50 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
Haulcy falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. With interior defensive lineman and linebacker unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Avieon Terrell at the Round 1 slot. A minor itch, scratched.
In slot 30 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
A slide stopped in Round 2, Pick 15, with Denzel Boston worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nothing to complain about; Chase Bisontis went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Circle this one: Jake Slaughter at No. 87 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A curious use of pick No. 90. Interior defensive lineman and linebacker needed the pick; a cornerback in Daylen Everette did not.
A.J. Haulcy at the 91st overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They will replay Eli Stowers at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Emmett Johnson slipping to the 113th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for Nadame Tucker, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They talked themselves into Trey Moore at Round 4, Pick 30, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Isaiah World in pick No. 151. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good price on Beau Stephens in No. 165, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Drew Allar at slot 168 is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They did well to land Domani Jackson in the 182nd pick, just ahead of his grade. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Josh Cameron at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
