You build a draft on nights like this. Skyler Bell had no business being available in No. 141, and the Dolphins did the only sane thing and turned in the card. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster. On the needs board they went 8 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 28 they get a potential shutdown corner at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Taking Dillon Thieneman in pick No. 53 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They barely believed it either: Emmanuel Pregnon still on the board at the 59th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Chris Bell at Round 3, Pick 11 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
You do not let a linebacker like Anthony Hill Jr. reach No. 78 and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Circle this one: Caleb Banks at pick 85 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jake Golday in the 90th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Keionte Scott in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Chase Bisontis in Round 3, Pick 31 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Elijah Sarratt was still sitting there in the 99th pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board fumbled Connor Lew all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 125 with a little surplus value in Jack Endries. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Justin Joly at slot 130 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
They will replay Skyler Bell at the 141st overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Mikail Kamara at pick No. 151 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A quiet steal in No. 161: Kaytron Allen for less than the market said. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They did well to land Taylen Green in pick 191, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A cornerback of that caliber at slot 227 is the definition of value, full stop. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
