Somebody in slot 87 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Dolphins sat still while Christen Miller, the No. 56 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The cost of the Moore reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Spending an early pick on cornerback with running back open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 19 they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In pick No. 30 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
They will replay Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at the 75th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Eli Stowers in slot 83 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Christen Miller at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Malachi Fields at the 90th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Daylen Everette in pick 91 leaves running back for later.
A quiet steal in Round 3, Pick 30: Connor Lew for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jack Endries at pick 125 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Mikail Kamara at the Round 4 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Bishop Fitzgerald while clear needs at running back sat open.
They talked themselves into Trey Moore at the 151st overall pick, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land Kage Casey in Round 5, Pick 25, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Ar'maj Reed-Adams at No. 170 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Cole Payton at the 200th pick, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Aiden Fisher. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
