The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Aaron Anderson, the 225th pick, roughly 48 picks past where he belonged.
The Payton pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
The Terrell pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at running back, interior defensive lineman and other spots. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a press-man option on the boundary. Need was not the driver here.
In slot 20 they get a go-to option on the outside at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Avieon Terrell in pick No. 35 leaves running back, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
CJ Allen in Round 3, Pick 2 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Chase Bisontis in pick 101 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Eli Raridon at No. 144 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Nice patience on Bryce Boettcher, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Febechi Nwaiwu in the 194th overall pick, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Patrick Payton at the 207th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Dae'Quan Wright at pick No. 221 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Aaron Anderson in slot 225 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
