For all the boxes ticked, the 49ers skipped the loudest one: quarterback is exactly as bare as it was.
The Allen pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The Durant pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a double-digit-sack hope, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Zachariah Branch in slot 62 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Daylen Everette at pick 95 is the proof. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Good price on Billy Schrauth in the Round 4 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jakobe Thomas at the 131st pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board had cheaper options than Kaytron Allen at pick No. 133, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Parker Brailsford at the 138th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Isaiah World in No. 139 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Zane Durant is a better player than pick No. 198 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They jumped the gun on Noah Whittington, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
