Boards are made to be trusted, and the Packers shredded theirs for Solomon Byrd. He came off 43 spots early, and the room will hear about it. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They banked enough surplus on McCormick to cover a lot of smaller sins. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board had cheaper options than Edgerrin Cooper at pick 41, and it noticed. A minor itch, scratched.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dominick Puni. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They liked Cole Bishop enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 3 slot. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Isaac Guerendo in slot 91, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach for Jarrian Jones in Round 4, Pick 26; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They barely believed it either: Mason McCormick still on the board at the 169th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Trevin Wallace this early at slot 202. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
A big swing on Solomon Byrd at pick No. 219, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
