Flashes of a plan, unevenly run, for the 49ers: C+.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The 49ers did exactly that with Caleb Douglas in slot 133.

They banked enough surplus on Parker II to cover a lot of smaller sins. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

If Joshua Josephs and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.27 · Pick 27 · Joshua Josephs · DE-EDGE · rank 45
In slot 27 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though the board says they badly overpaid.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Dani Dennis-Sutton · DE-EDGE · rank 85
Dani Dennis-Sutton at pick No. 58 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Brian Parker II · C · rank 110
Brian Parker II at Round 4, Pick 27 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Caleb Douglas · WR · rank 166
A wild overpay on Caleb Douglas in the Round 4 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.38 · Pick 138 · Will Lee III · CB · rank 126
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Will Lee III in the 138th pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R4.39 · Pick 139 · Jakobe Thomas · S · rank 141
Jakobe Thomas in No. 139 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
