The Packers did not so much draft Trevin Wallace as overpay for him, 65 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. On value alone, Jenkins makes the weekend a net positive. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a potential shutdown corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Edgerrin Cooper at pick 41 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A tidy bit of business in the 58th pick, where Kris Jenkins graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A conviction pick on Cole Bishop at the Round 3 slot that the board grades a round light. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Christian Mahogany at Round 3, Pick 28 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid up for Roger Rosengarten at the 126th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trevin Wallace. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Kimani Vidal this early at No. 202. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Solomon Byrd well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
