The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Jowon Briggs, taking him 35 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
That Jones pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a building block for the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They read the board right and Roman Wilson was the payoff at the 56th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Benson at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A quiet steal in pick No. 174: Marist Liufau for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They barely believed it either: Curtis Jacobs still on the board at slot 216. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A wild overpay on Jowon Briggs in No. 233, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Taking Sheridan Jones in pick No. 244 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
