The rest of the league had time to spare on Fa'alili Fa'amoe; the 49ers did not wait, grabbing him 41 spots ahead at slot 215.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The Washington Jr. steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
It is not that Thomas is a bad player; it is that the 49ers had louder needs to answer first. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Malachi Lawrence at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Chase Bisontis in the 58th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A.J. Haulcy at pick No. 62 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A minor itch, scratched.
They paid sticker price for Ted Hurst in No. 83, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They robbed the room for Mike Washington Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Brian Parker II at Round 4, Pick 8 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board had cheaper options than Kaleb Proctor at pick 127, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They talked themselves into Kevin Coleman Jr. at the 133rd overall pick, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
