San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers turned the phones into found money: B-.

Future D

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but J'Mari Taylor at pick No. 149 is 46 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. The Muhammad value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The 49ers paired the rookies with proven help, Myles Garrett leading the way.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.29 · Pick 29 · Chris Brazzell II · WR · rank 29
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Dani Dennis-Sutton · DE-EDGE · rank 86
A real head-scratcher, Dani Dennis-Sutton in the 58th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Kyle Louis · LB · rank 88
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kyle Louis at slot 102 is the proof. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Michael Trigg · TE · rank 117
They liked Michael Trigg enough to skip the value, taking him in the 107th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Brian Parker II · C · rank 110
A straight-up fair deal on Brian Parker II at No. 109, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.17 · Pick 117 · Gracen Halton · DL · rank 128
Gracen Halton at pick 117 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Malik Muhammad · CB · rank 102
Steal is underselling it; Malik Muhammad at the Round 4 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor itch, scratched.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Jakobe Thomas · S · rank 140
No drama and no debate, Jakobe Thomas went about where he belonged in No. 133. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Kevin Coleman Jr. · WR · rank 166
They left a pile of value on the table to take Kevin Coleman Jr. this early at the 134th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.38 · Pick 138 · Dametrious Crownover · OT · rank 146
A reach on Dametrious Crownover in the 138th overall pick; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.6 · Pick 146 · Jaeden Roberts · OG · rank 152
They took Jaeden Roberts at par in slot 146, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.8 · Pick 148 · Nadame Tucker · DE-EDGE · rank 177
They talked themselves into Nadame Tucker at pick No. 148, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.9 · Pick 149 · J'Mari Taylor · RB · rank 195
Value said wait; J'Mari Taylor in Round 5, Pick 9 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.29 · Pick 169 · Charles Demmings · CB · rank 151
A cornerback of that caliber at pick 169 is the definition of value, full stop. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R5.30 · Pick 170 · Caleb Douglas · WR · rank 167
A reasonable price with a little left over, Caleb Douglas in pick No. 170. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.35 · Pick 175 · Taylen Green · QB · rank 194
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Taylen Green. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.28 · Pick 209 · Jimmy Rolder · LB · rank 231
They reached into another round for Jimmy Rolder, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
