After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Getting Rosemy-Jacksaint where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Laube has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th overall pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value.
Ladd McConkey at No. 34 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A clean, defensible pick in the 38th pick with a little surplus value in Ennis Rakestraw Jr.. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A straight-up fair deal on Cade Stover at pick No. 68, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Matt Goncalves at pick 103 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Dylan Laube in Round 5, Pick 1 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Walter Rouse at slot 180. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ro Torrence at the Round 6 slot is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Taking Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
