The Jack Pyburn selection is the head-turner. The Bears reached 49 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Rutledge at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a bendy edge with upside, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
They went early on LT Overton in Round 2, Pick 25, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Dani Dennis-Sutton this early at pick 60. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board had Keylan Rutledge higher than pick No. 89, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Max Llewellyn well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyren Montgomery in the 239th pick. The roster fit checks out.
Jack Pyburn at Round 7, Pick 25 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
