Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Broncos were there to profit. Max Klare, the No. 76 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 111.
Stribling has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Linebacker is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
A wild overpay on De'Zhaun Stribling in the 62nd overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darrell Jackson Jr.. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Max Klare at the 111th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Albert Regis at Round 5, Pick 30 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good price on Aiden Fisher in slot 246, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Dane Key in the Round 7 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
Brent Austin at pick No. 257 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
