The tape said wait; the Browns did not. Garrett Nussmeier went at Round 2, Pick 7, a good 42 picks before the board was ready.
Landing Everette that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Kadyn Proctor at slot 6 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It fills a real need, too.
In pick No. 24 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They reached a country mile for Garrett Nussmeier at the 39th pick, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had Chase Bisontis higher than the 70th overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Daylen Everette in Round 4, Pick 7 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Kaytron Allen at par in pick 146, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A quiet steal in the 149th overall pick: DeMonte Capehart for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Justin Jefferson at pick 206, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Kaden Wetjen at the 248th pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
