Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cardinals were there to profit. DJ Campbell, the No. 190 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 217.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Colton Hood at pick 34 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The board fumbled Anthony Hill Jr. all the way to No. 65, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kamari Ramsey at pick No. 104 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
No drama and no debate, Chris McClellan went about where he belonged in slot 143. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Reggie Virgil in Round 6, Pick 2 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
DJ Campbell in the 217th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
