The Tyreak Sapp pick is the one that will follow the Jaguars into the fall. They took him 48 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
They banked enough surplus on Law to cover a lot of smaller sins. The Curry pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at safety, linebacker and other spots. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.
On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick-by-Pick
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Drew Shelton. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Skyler Bell at pick 81, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tyreak Sapp at pick No. 88 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went edge rusher with Caden Curry while clear needs at safety, linebacker and other spots sat open.
The board fumbled Chandler Rivers all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Beau Stephens at No. 164 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had Zxavian Harris higher than Round 5, Pick 26, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Pat Coogan at the 203rd pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Taking Kendrick Law in pick 233 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Noah Whittington. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A slide stopped in slot 245, with Miles Kitselman worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
